House Cleaning Services Wichita KSFive Classic Cocktail Recipes

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many have started enjoying cocktails at home rather than visiting their favorite restaurant or cocktail bar. Margaret McHenry Maids, the leading provider of luxury house cleaning services in Wichita, Kansas, has compiled some classic cocktail recipes to try at home.

Bourbon Old Fashioned

The concept of a Bourbon Old Fashioned dates back more than 200 years, so it is a true classic. While other whiskey drinks can be made with subpar bourbon, the Bourbon Old Fashioned should be made with high-quality bourbon and is truly ideal with muddled sugar rather than simple syrup.

  1. Add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and 1 teaspoon of water into a rocks glass, and stir the ingredients until the sugar is almost dissolved.
  2. Add large ice cubes and 2 ounces of high-quality bourbon. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Garnish the Bourbon Old Fashioned with an orange peel.

Whether on the rocks or frozen, the Margarita has long been one of the most popular cocktails in North America. We recommend a classic version on the rocks that combines the tang of lime, sweetness of orange and the strength of tequila.

  1. Add 2 ounces of blanco tequila, 1/2 ounce of orange liqueur, 1 ounce of fresh lime juice and 1/2 ounce of agave syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until well-chilled.
  2. Strain the liquid into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  3. Garnish the Margarita with a lime wheel and kosher salt (optional).

Tom Collins

While there have always been arguments as to which side of the pond it originated, the Tom Collins is an all-time gin classic either way. Essentially a sparking lemonade spiked with gin, you are guaranteed to enjoy every sip.

  1. Add 2 ounces of London Dry gin, 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice and 1/2 ounce of simple syrup into a Collins glass (a 10-14 fluid ounce glass).
  2. Fill the glass with ice, top with club soda and stir.
  3. Garnish the Tom Collins with a maraschino cherry.

Vodka Martini

Some feel that classic martinis are made with gin, but we are partial to Vodka Martinis. After all, it is the cocktail of choice for James Bond. Just be sure to take the stirred, not shaken, approach, as it creates the most smooth martini.

  1. Stir 2 1/2 ounces of vodka, 1/2 ounce of dry vermouth, 1 dash of orange bitters and ice together.
  2. Strain the liquid from the ice into a chilled martini glass.
  3. Garnish the Vodka Martini with a lemon twist.

Whiskey Sour

With an origin dating back to the Lincoln administration, the Whiskey Sour is a tried and true classic. The Whiskey Sour is sure to satisfy with our recommended egg white to add thickness and aromatic bitters to add a spicy note.

  1. Add 2 ounces of bourbon, 3/4 ounce of fresh lemon juice, 1/2 ounce of simple syrup and 1/2 ounce of egg white into a shaker and dry-shake (without ice).
  2. Add ice, shake again, and strain the liquid from the ice into a coupe glass.
  3. Garnish the Whiskey Sour with 3 or 4 drops of Angostura bitters.
